Pain on left side of upper stomach?

Night before last woke up with severe pain on upper left side. Subsided abit after 6-7 hrs., but still pretty bad. After laying around all day and using a heating pad I seemed to get some relief. Slept good last night. Woke up a few times, but only with dull pain. Seems better this morning but get pain in the area when I breath real deep or yawn. The pain is inbetween my navel and rib cage, but to the left..not in the middle. When I push in that area it's tender.
Could be pancreatitis, although you'd really need blood tests, etc., to confirm that. Have you had any trouble with your gallbladder? Sometimes this leads to pancreatitis. Check with your doc if the pain persists.

Thats where your heart is. You might want to go to the doctors.

Okay. im not sure of the answer.
I would just like to clear up that it is NOT where your heart is.
As someone said before me.
your heart is located behind the ribcage. Not under it. The reason of your ribcage is to protect the important parts of you. I.e, your lungs and heart.

you may be describing an ulcer, or referred pains, meaning pain from another area in the abdomen like the gall bladder or appendix. if you have a temp, go to the md asap.if not go as soon as possible.in the meantime try some over the counter antacid and see if it helps.goodluck;)michele
